When digital technology sublimates Impressionist art

Situation & challenge

Bringing Impressionism to life online

The Impressionism research programme ‘Destination Impressionnisme’, supported by the Fondation Université Paris Nanterre, faces a major challenge: to design an immersive and accessible digital platform capable of informing, inspiring and uniting people around the Impressionist movement.

Aimed at a heterogeneous audience – researchers, students, art lovers and the general public – this site has a twofold challenge:

  • To become THE digital reference for the Impressionist movement.
  • To offer an interactive, intuitive experience that reconciles academic rigour with the pleasure of browsing.

The challenge? To breathe new life into Impressionism in the digital age.

Strategy

Emotional and aesthetic immersion

Sweet Punk has designed a website that reflects the very essence of the Impressionist movement: emotion and aestheticism, combined with fluid, intuitive navigation.

To achieve this, Sweet Punk designed a multi-layered digital experience:

  • A clean, inspiring interface that highlights the richness of the content without visual overload,
  • An intelligent navigation system, combining immersive browsing and advanced search,
  • A hierarchy of content adapted to different visitor profiles, from novice to specialist,
  • A scalable technical architecture, designed to adapt to new uses and future enhancements.

Much more than a simple platform, the impressionismes.fr website must be a genuine artistic and cultural experience, paying tribute to a revolutionary movement by adapting it to today’s uses.

Creative idea

As if you were there

Impressionism is an art form that captures the moment and the light.

We’ve translated this philosophy into digital form with a website that can be viewed like an ever-changing painting.

  • An interactive gallery where the eye travels freely, like in front of an impressionist landscape,
  • A dynamic chronology, to tell the story of the movement at a glance,
  • A minimalist art direction, where each graphic element serves to magnify the art rather than overshadow it.

The site doesn’t just inform, it invites you to explore and experience, like a real museum stroll.

Our guidance

Artistic direction & UX/UI Design

  • A design inspired by museum codes, with a sober, elegant palette.
  • Expressive typography that bridges the gap between tradition and modernity.
  • Visual breathing space to enhance the works and content.

Web development & technical performance

The site has been developed on WordPress Bedrock, combining performance and flexibility.

Its tailor-made content management system is adapted to the needs of contributors, even those who are not always at ease with digital technology.

SEO and RGPD optimisation have been carried out, along with ethical performance monitoring.

Finally, the site is hosted on the servers of Huma-Num, a public research infrastructure under the supervision of the CNRS and the Ministry of Higher Education and Research.

This structure supports the digital transition of the humanities and social sciences by offering services for storing, processing, analysing and disseminating research data.

By promoting interoperability and the pooling of resources, Huma-Num guarantees the sustainability and sovereignty of scientific data in France.
